The only Bible account of creation is in Genesis, the first book of the Bible, which was written in Hebrew. The author is thought to be Moses, but no one is knows for sure, and no knows to what he got that knowledge by directly revelation from God or whether we just put in writing what others before him had been saying.
The word translated as 'day' is the word 'yom' in the Hebrew language in which this portion of the Bible was written about 1500 years ago.
Just as the English equivalent, 'yom' usually means a 24 hours period, but it can also mean a long indefinite period of time (like we say this is the day of computers), depending on the context.
See note 1.1a below for reasons why the most reasonable meaning of day (yom) means an indefinite long period of time.
The order of creation is the same in the Bible as it is in modern science.
Life on earth thought to be 4.5 billion. Took that long to cool.
For over three thousand years, the Bible was ridicules because God said 'Let there be light' on the first day but it was not until the fourth day that God said:
'Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth. And it was so. God made the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night.'
Now, with modern science, we can understand how, from earth's perspective, billions of years the sun and moon were not visible through dense cloud cover and now yet until became stable in their orbits.
The Bible was also ridiculed that negation started appearing before the sun was visible, but now we know that energy from the sun glow through cloud cover to sustain simple vegetation even though the sun without direct sunlight.
We would expect ancient people to say that life started on land and then moved to the sea and sky, but in this account they got it right that creature life started from in the sea, then sky and finally land.
It is highly unlikely that the writer could have known all these stages and put them all in exact order without divine knowledge.
Bible not a scientific book so says no more than necessary to let us know ...
If it had said earth started from a explosion of small amount of matter, is round, revolves around the sun, etc., people for centuries would have completely dismissed the Bible as false.
Detail not important. Important thing: GOD DID IT!
Doesn't matter if short time or long time.
God certainly has power to create the world in 6 literal days, and he could create it with apparent age (as Adam), but it to do it so it unfolds so elegantly over billions of years is even more awesome. and further reduces the infitensly remote chance that it happened by itself by random chance is even more preposterous.
It follows logically that if there is intelligent design in the world, there must be a DESIGNER.
And since we observe and experience reality of the design, it follows that there must be a CREATOR who implemented the design into actual existence.
Bible says God rested on seventh day. Doesn't imply got tired, just stopped working (creating).
Now not original creations, but processions from the original.
Only day that does not have evening.
